Andrew Carnabuci (Goldeneye Pictures)
Alexander Bazes (Guns 'n' Money Inc.)
Nat Webb (Nixon Brand Cinematography)
Punch Drunk started conceptually in February of 1998. Nat got together with a friend of his by the name of Chris (not, of course, the Chris whose work you see here) to create the action-figure adventures of Julius Caesar, back from the dead and looking for vengeance.
Talk about your humble beginnings.
Alexander joined in early after, and the collaboration of these three artistes created "Return of the Romans".
It sucked.
But it started the idea of movie-making as a pastime. On April 15, Nat got his beloved Sony Handycam, and on the 18th work was begun on some movie about aliens.
The minister of defense wore no shoes and the president needed to comb his hair.
It was a beginning.
A little earlier, March 29 to be exact, Andrew started capturing Goldeneye games on his computer and sequencing them with music in the background. Themes included Boris dying, Natalya dying, and Mishkin dying.
Over the summer of '98, Andrew, Nat, and Chris made The Quest For Funk, much to the annoyance of Alexander, who was at learning camp. It was tons o' proverbial fun, and they learned a lot. It was the first big Punch Drunk production, and the only one ever really completed in any form.
Many projects have been attempted and scrapped since.
It's been fun.
